About the Program
The Maine Ambassadors of Food and Drink Program was launched by Margo Mallar, an inveterate traveler and enthusiastic home cook. For many years, Margo was a tour manager and cruise director for Travel Dynamics (www.traveldynamicsinternational.com) operators of original itineraries based on ancient and medieval history, literature, art, and of course, food and wine. Among her favorite culinary memories are: eating bicycle chicken and Capitaine fish in Mali, sipping Brennavin but skipping the putrified shark flesh in Iceland, eating mounds of salmon roe slathered on thick Russian bread at a picnic at a thermal pool on Kamchatka, sharing a mate bombilla as lamb cooked over an open fire in Patagonia, and sipping mulled mead at Wierzynek, a restaurant in Krakow that's been catering to the elite of Central Europe since the 14th century. The glass of champagne she drank in Antarctica still taunts her inner locavore.Margo is happily settled in Portland, Maine and is compiling an equally exciting bank of Maine culinary memories.
